When you go to the dentist, the last thing you’d ever expect to hear your dental professional say to your child after having his teeth cleaned is, “Make sure to grab a lollipop before you go!”  What if we told you that you can have a lollipop that is not full of bad sugars and fake food coloring?

That is why you landed on our blog!  Dr. Jennifer Heller and her team not only love the taste of Dr. John’s Candies, but even more so the fact that they are natural, low-calorie sugar alternatives that are also low-glycemic and do not contribute to cavities. You heard that correctly, they DO NOT contribute to cavities!  Inside these lollipops is Xylitol which actually fights cavities.  This makes them a healthy and special treat!

Dr. John’s Candies started when a dentist named Dr. John Bruinsma and his wife Debra, a dental hygienist, realized that they couldn’t find a sugar-free candy that actually tasted good so they created one themselves!

What is this ingredient, Xylitol, that we mentioned earlier?  It is a naturally occurring sugar which can be formed from many fruits and vegetables and is also produced by the human body.  Another fun fact to add is that it has no effect on blood sugar or insulin levels, making it safe for diabetics.  For the health-conscious trying to cut back on their sugar intake, Xylitol has 75% fewer calories than sugar.  It also inhibits the growth of cavity causing bacteria in the mouth so Dr. Heller shares them with everyone she knows and cares about!

Now that we know the benefits of xylitol and what it can do for us, how about the taste of Dr. John’s Candies?!  It’s almost too good to be true because they really taste great!  Children (and even adults!) have fallen in LOVE with Dr. John’s lollipops!  Our younger patients would rather have one than an ordinary, sugar-filled pop.  Our patients who suffer from xerostomia (a condition that causes a dry mouth) also benefit greatly from these candies as it allows relief along with the important cavity fighting power.  There are MANY delicious flavors but Dr. Heller’s son, Henry, prefers chocolate and asks for one of each every time he visits the office.  One for each hand!

Make sure to grab one to try the next time you’re visiting us!
